Al Thornton to miss some games for Washington Wizards
Washington Wizards forward Al Thornton sat out in their 116-96 loss against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday 25 November and the former Florida State standout could miss the next few games for
the Wizards because of a sprained left ankle.
Thornton, who is averaging 10.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season, said he would miss “a couple of games” after aggravating his ailing left ankle in their games against the Philadelphia
76ers on Tuesday 23 November. The 26-year-old forward said he hurt his ankle again when he landed on team-mate JaVale McGee’s foot after trying to block a shot.
“It's pretty bad,” said Thornton on his injury. “I just turned it all the way over. I need to take a step back and really get healthy. I was just trying to get through it. I've been getting
treatment on it. I didn't let it heal all the way.”
The third-year guard also added that he will be extra cautious on dealing with the injury and he will make sure that he is fully healed before making his comeback because he does not want
to get his ankle aggravated again, which could sideline him for a longer stretch this season.
“I'm going to really let this thing heal before I try to get back on it,” Thornton said. “I just thought it was one of those nagging injuries that if you keep playing, keep treating, it'll
get better with time, but I guess that's not the case. It is the same ankle I sprained real bad before the preseason, before the home opener. It is just nagging. I'm going to let it heal; do it the right way.”
Without Thornton, head coach Flip Saunders was forced to start the game with a three-guard line-up – John Wall, Kirk Hinrich, and Gilbert Arenas – and he is expected to stick with the rotation,
even though they were clobbered by their much bigger opponent in their previous game.
