Al Yambor-Maul wins Women’s 100m backstroke gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Al Yambor-Maul of Area Tallahassee won gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on third day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, July 14.
The 17-year-old Yambor-Maul served notice of her talent in the two-lap backstroke event as she showed her urgency towards the finishing wall and snared gold medal of the discipline.
With her epic pace and start, she enjoyed a two-arm stroke lead over her strongest competitor and made her way to the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 05.46 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was chased by Justine A Ress of Santa Clara Swim, who remained 0.31 seconds behind and occupied silver medal of the event by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 05.77 seconds.
Second position holder was trailed by Lydia Ware of First Coast Y-FL, who stayed just 0.04 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as third position holder by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 05.81 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Lauren C Piper of Area Tallahassee, who remained 0.07 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by posting a time of 1 minute and 05.88 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Fabiana Ingram of Lake Lytal Light, who stayed just a touch behind and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 05.95 seconds.
Ingram remained in a lead of 0.33 seconds over Karen Vilorio of Swim Florida-FL, who secured sixth position of the discipline by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 06.28 seconds.
Similarly, Ashley N Hicks of Unattached-FG remained 0.14 seconds away from Vilorio and ended seventh in the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 06.42 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Kristen Goodson of South Florida Aquatics, who appeared on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 06.56 seconds.
Furthermore, Yambor-Maul expressed happiness over her commendable win at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
