Three games took place in NCAA basketball on November 27, 2011. Here is a brief review:
Alabama Crimson Tide 72 - Virginia Commonwealth Rams 64
JaMychal Green posted a game-high 21 points, including 16 in the second half, and grabbed 14 rebounds as Alabama Crimson Tide beat Virginia Commonwealth Rams 72-64 at Coleman Coliseum for their seventh consecutive victory.
Tony Mitchell returned from right ankle injury and ended with 13 points, three assists and two blocks in the victory.
Guard forward Bradford Burgess racked-up a team-high 18 points and grabbed three rebounds while Rob Brandenburg and Juvonte Reddic added 10 points each.
Alabama came out strong and held a 30-25 lead with 4:50 to go in the first half of the game. Virginia Commonwealth responded with eight consecutive points for a 33-30 lead. Trevor Lacey hit 2 of 2 free throws at the end of the
half to make it one-point contest, 33-32, at the break.
In a closely contested second half, the score was tied at 60 with 4:07 remaining in the game. Crimson Tide then reeled off a 6-0 run for 66-60 advantage and never looked back.
Pittsburgh Panthers 81 - Robert Morris Colonials 71
Ashton Gibbs added 21 points on 7 for 10 shooting from free throw line as Pittsburgh Panthers registered their third consecutive victory with an 81-71 win over Robert Morris Colonials at Petersen Events Center.
Cameron Wright came off the bench with 13 points while Travon Woodall registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. Talib Zanna contributed a career-high 10 points and grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds while Khem Birch
had eight points, 11 rebounds, and a game-high six blocks in the victory.
Cordon Williams headed Robert Morris with 19 points while Russell Johnson scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Velton Jones and Lawrence Bridges punctuated 10 points each in the losing effort.
Pittsburgh started the game with great intensity and held a 17-point lead, 42-25, after first half. The Colonials did not get within striking distance in the second half and the Panthers sealed their 30th straight victory
against their cross-town rival.
Missouri Tigers 88 - Binghamton Bearcats 59
At Mizzou Arena, Kim English tallied a career-high 29 points – connecting 7 for 9 from three-point range – and Missouri Tigers improved to 6-0 with an 88-59 victory over Binghamton Bearcats. The Bearcats, meanwhile, dropped to
6-0 in this season.
Ricardo Ratliffe had 18 points and five rebounds while Marcus Denmon contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three steals for the Tigers. Michael Dixon came off the bench with 11 points, three assists and two steals while Phil
Pressey tied a career high with 11 assists in the victory.
Ben Dickinson led the Bearcats with 15 points and seven rebounds while Jimmy Gray finished with 13 points in the loss. Chris Longoria totalled 12 points while Robert Mansell collected 11 points.
The Tigers jumped to a 12-2 lead early in the first half and carried a 49-31 advantage into the second. Missouri scored the first 11 points of the second half to push their lead to 29 and maintained their hold until the final buzzer.
