Do anyone know how many estimates you are required to have when your house has incurred major damage , for the state of alabama dealing with home owners insurance?

An adjuster from the company should be coming to your house within a day, especially if the damage is major.  I hope your reported the damage to your insurance company immediately (some have 24 hr claims #).  They should be able to give you a close approximation of the damages (unless there is hidden damage in the walls, which is possible so you would get a supplemental estimate after the repair work has started).  Also, they will need to come out to be sure that the damage is covered by your policy.  Once you get your estimate, call a local builder, one you trust - & be sure to get a certificate of insurance from him - and have him look at the estimate & the damages.  You should not need to get more than one estimate.  Sometimes companies have preferred contractors, see if your company does.  I have never heard of more than one estimate for home damages.
