Alabama ladies top Golf World/NGCA Division I coaches poll
According to the Golf World/NGCA Division I coaches poll, Alabama women’s golf team tops the order. This happened for the first time in schools’ history which also placed the team in the news this Thursday.
The person holding the honor was Mic Potter, head coach of Alabama team. Potter received first-place votes amounting to 21 out of 29 which made him beat the former number one from Southern California. Team Crimson’s victory at the NCAA fall preview is one
of the reasons for its ascending. The game was held at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. It will be holding the NCAA Championship next year as well.
Potter now feels the years changing as he said that it is always good to see your name on the top and comparing the last five years that the team has passed, a stark difference is visible. The coach added that the jump is rather huge and to be recognized
by your peers always feels nice. Southern California slipped to number two after this week’s poll while Duke is in the third place, LSU at the fourth and UCLA rounding up the top five.
At the NCAA fall preview, Alabama led the rival team, SEC with one stroke. It played an impressive score of 849 with a 15 under. The Crimson side had two players in its squad who were separate in nature. These were Brooke Pancake and Camilla Lennarth, who
carded a 65 which is basically a minus 7. Jennifer Kirby played the final round, carding a score of 66. All of these three golfers ended up in the top-ten list with Lennarth and Pancake striving for the fourth place while Kirby ending at 9th place.
Meanwhile, Crimson Tide, in its second tournament of the fall, attained 859 in total with a 5 under-par. This score was carded at the Mason Rudolph Championship and Crimson finished sixth with Lennarth finishing in the top five, the second time. The Alabama
team currently averages at 284.67 in stroke per round which is also a 3.33 shot below the par. In the full six rounds that Tides played, they haven’t been able to finish with a shot above the par.
Lennarth, a senior from Stockholm, is leader of the all-sizzling Crimson Tide. This women golfer attained an average of 70.0 after the first two tournaments played this season. Lennarth ended the under par with two in 60s. Moreover, Pancake isn’t that far
behind either as she has an average of 70.33 which was attained by carding 3 under par rounds and a 65 along with 67.
Now coming back to the coach, Potter maintained that the competition is severing with five to six schools all in top form and opting to fight for the win. He further added that the changes bound to take place in the top 5-6 with time cannot be ignored and
if we would win some games, then so will the other teams also.
Alabama will be charging in on 8th October 2010 at the Tar Heel Invitational that is to be held at the Finely Golf Course in Chapel Hill.
