Alabama prison system (sending mail)?

Question

I'm new to all of this so I need some help. I got a letter today to let me know that my best friend is being transferred to Kilby and I read online where you have to be on a list to send them money and to visit them do i also have to be on a list in order to write him a letter or can i just write him. I'm not sure how all of this works and he's going to be there for at least 18 months and i want to make sure that i'm going to be able to talk to him while he is there. Any help is appreciated.

I don't really have an answer, but I think you should contact the prison and ask them for advice.  I do watch a lot of shows about life in prison on MSNBC, and I think that all of the mail is censored.  If you are more than just friends, if you write too much sexual stuff or send naked pictures they might send you back your letters and not forward them to your friend, so you should find out the rules on what you can write or send also.

If you know his address at the prison where he is at you can write him, if there is any changes to it He will probably write you first to make you aware. If you want to visit him there he will have to put you on his list. I am sure He will do that...
