The Toulouse coach has criticised Rennes’ long-ball tactics after his side drew 2-2 against Les Rouges et Noirs at Stade Municipal on Saturday
Les Pitchouns came from behind to equalise against Frederic Antonetti’s side, thanks to an injury time goal from goalkeeper, Ali Ahamada.
However, despite narrowly avoiding a defeat and getting a valuable point against Rennes, Toulouse coach, Alain Casanova is not amused.
While talking to reporters, the 51-year-old said that the result is like a victory for his side, but he is not pleased with the way the visiting side played against them.
"The match finished as if it were a win for us, but really this is the kind of match we don't like so much.”
Referring to Rennes’ long-ball tactics, Casanova said that the visitors played very direct football, making it impossible for Toulouse to play their best game. The coach admitted that his side should have done better on the pitch, as they were unable to
win back procession in the game.
However, Les Pitchouns put in a much improved performance in the second half and the former Le Havre player feels that his side’s performance in the second half was very impressive.
“Rennes played very direct football with a lot of long balls and didn't let us impose our game. We were weak in winning the ball back but I think that the way we started the second half allowed us to make the difference.”
Praising his players, Alain Casanova said that Toulouse played with right frame of mind and they wanted to win the match. The never say die attitude helped Le Tef to get away with a point against Rennes.
“I was very pleased with my players' mentality at the end of the match. This refusal to lose also allowed us to rescue a point against Reims.”
Talking about his side’s performance in the league so far, Casanova said that TFC have already played against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Montpellier and Saint-Etienne, and he is satisfied with the way things are going.
