Alain Vigneault tipped off to be new Vancouver Canucks Head Coach - NHL News
Vancouver Canucks were quick by the opinion of some to let go Alain Vigneault, because the New York Rangers have seen in him what most people are unable to do so and are reportedly going to be announce him as their new head coach in the coming days.
According to sources, the Rangers and Vigneault have agreed in principle to a new contract but details of a deal and an official announcement by the New York National Hockey League (NHL) franchise is still awaited.
In the past few days, the rumour was running with sources claiming that New York has begin negotiating and Vigneault’s name was definitely on the list. He is also tipped off to become of the highest paid in the profession, with sources claiming that he made $1.25-1.5 million with the Vancouver Canucks this past season.
It has also been learned that the former Vancouver Canucks coach has withdrawn his name from contention for the open position with the Dallas Stars, something he was quick to do after news broke of the agreement with New York. The Rangers began looking for a new coach after they fired long time head, John Tortorella, on May 29, following an embarrassing loss to the Boston Bruins in round-two of the playoffs in which they won just a single game.
The Dallas Stars are also reported to have been interested in hiring the former Canucks head coach and replacing him with Glen Gulutzan. Gulutzan met the same fate as many others after he failed to get the Dallas Stars into the playoffs, as the team missed them for the fifth consecutive season.
Alain Vigneault has a colourful career record with him, as he managed to get the Vancouver Canucks into the playoffs every single year along with a back-to-back win the Presidents’ Trophy and a seven-game performance against the Boston Bruins in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.
This season, the Vancouver Canucks topped the Northwest Division and were eliminated by the San Jose Sharks in an unexpected series. He had a 313-170-57 season with the Vancouver Canucks in the regular season.
