Alameda Aquatics Masters dominate in Santa Cruz - 2011 Pacific Masters Championships
Renowned swimming club of California, Alameda Aquatics Masters, put in their best effort to win the Men’s 400m medley relay at the 2011 Pacific Masters Championships, in Santa Cruz, California.
Pierre Hathaway, August Motmans, Ashley Jones and Harry Goldsmith came out strongly in the 400m medley relay event and secured the gold medal by completing the distance in a scintillating time of 7 minutes and 56.60 seconds. More importantly, the Alameda
Aquatics Masters team beat Oregon Masters’ previous record of 10 minutes and 34.72 seconds, set back in 2010.
All the swimmers of the association were really happy and pleased by their individual performances in the respective meet, held last week.
In the meantime, Harry Goldsmith claimed that their victory was the result of pure coordination among their swimmers. He added that his squad really faced the challenge well and won the match in an emphatic style.
The squad is now ready to take up the challenge at the upcoming 2011 FINA World Championships, in Shanghai, China, from July 16-31.
In another event, Ann Hirsch of Walnut Creek took home the Women’s 200m Individual Medley crown with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 18.27 seconds. Most importantly, Hirsch beat Sylvia Neuhauser’s previous record of 4 minutes and 18.33 seconds.
Additionally, the Walnut Creek swimmer earned first place honours in the Women’s 100m breast-stroke meet, after she touched the finishing wall in a time of 1 minute and 59.20 seconds. Amazingly, Hirsch again beat Neuhauser’s previous record of 1 minute and
59.20 seconds.
Hirsch then secured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m breast-stroke event, after she ended her superb effort with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 17.64 seconds. She was also able to beat Neuhauser’s previous record of 4 minutes and 17.76 seconds.
Earlier, Laura Val posted the fastest times in Women’s 50m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events. In addition, Val snared the gold medals in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley meet. Furthermore, she nabbed the Women’s 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly
titles.
