Alamsyah Yunus beats Nan Wei to enter into Men’s Singles quarter-final of Vietnam Open Grand Prix
Indonesia’s emerging shuttler, Alamsyah Yunus proved that he is ready to shine in major events as he defeated Hong Kong’s Nan Wei in the Men’s Singles pre-quarter-final of the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on Thursday, August 25.
Yunus, who is the fourth seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the event and World Number 32, had to dig deep to beat his talented opponent in a three-set entertaining match. The Indonesian took 56 minutes to prove his worth against the Hong Kong shuttler by
employing his wonderful skills. He is now looking forward to stretch his winning run in the event by playing with the same spirit in upcoming matches.
In the first game of the match, Yunus played phenomenal badminton against Nan Wei and showed no mercy in the whole set. The impressive strokes of the Indonesian landed perfectly in all areas of his opponent’s court and earned him a wonderful position in
the opening set of this Men’s Singles fight. Yunus was leading with a good difference of 11-7 until the break.
The Hong Kong shuttler changed his strategy in the second part of the set but Yunus was quicker in all areas of the court and was playing with precision. The Indonesian put up a terrific show of quality badminton in the second-half of the first game and
won it with an eight-point difference of 21-13, in 17 minutes.
It was a completely different story in the second set of the match as Nan Wei played a stunning game this time and showed no signs of slowing down. Yunus failed to continue his positive game as his challenger was quicker at the net and dominated the rallies
most of the time. Yunus lost the second set with a huge margin of 12-21, in 18 minutes.
Yunus found his momentum back in the third game of the match and played with confidence and precision. He dominated the game in the whole set and remained successful in winning it with a remarkable margin of 21-14, in 21 minutes. This entertaining three-set
contest finished in 56 minutes with the score of 21-13, 12-21 and 21-14.
