Alamsyah Yunus beats Soon Huat Goh to claim Men’s Singles title at Malaysia Grand Prix Gold 2013
Indonesia’s aggressive player Alamsyah Yunus proved his mettle on court and claimed Men’s Singles title after defeating her local opponent Soon Huat Goh in final encounter of Malaysia Grand Prix Gold 2013 in Malaysia, on Sunday, May 5.
The 12th seeded Yunus, who remained in commanding form all the way in this tournament, continued his roller-coaster performance in the final battle and managed to overpower his un-seeded rival in a thrilling fight that ended up in 68 minutes.
Yunus could not put up strong show in the opening set but found a good flow in the following games and remained successful in winning the battle in rubber sets with a reasonable 10-21, 21-9 and 21-19 score on the board.
In the first game, the Indonesian failed to play positive badminton as his local rival was playing on a different level. He could not put up strong show at any stage and lost the opening game in a one-sided manner with a huge deficit of 10-21.
However, it was a completely game in the following set when Yunus got a good flow and played with impressive speed and precision. He remained aggressive on court and pushed his rival on back foot until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the in-form Indonesian shuttler continued his attacking play and remained miles ahead on the board. He did not lose his focus at any stage in the second set and won it with a crushing 21-9 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both shuttlers put up strong show of aggressive badminton and pushed each other everywhere in the arena. The score progressed closely at the opening stage.
Until the end of first part, both shuttlers failed to set up a comfortable lead and the crowd went on supporting their Soon Huat who played terrific badminton.
In the ending points of the final set, the higher ranked Yunus played positive and controlled badminton. He did not let the pressure pile up on him and managed to wrap up the ending points to end up the set with a close 21-19 score on the board.
