Alamsyah Yunus outplays Ji Hoon Hong in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Australian Open GP Gold
Indonesia’s upcoming shuttler Alamsyah Yunus showed his elevated craft when he played tremendous badminton and outplayed Korea’s Ji Hoon Hong in Men’s Singles round-of-16 at 2012 Australian Open GP Gold in Sydney, on Thursday, April 5.
Yunus, who has been positioned at number 33 in world rankings and 15th seed in Men’s Singles draw of Australian Open, was impressive in the court as he did not lose his focus at any stage and ended the contest in an inspiring fashion.
The Indonesian was in good rhythm as he did not drop any set and overpowered his opponent in straight games by taking 52 minutes in the court.
Ji Hoon gave a good fight to his Indonesian rival in the opening part of first set but failed to maintain his positive run and lost the contest without making a strong impact.
They grabbed the attention of local fans by putting up tremendous show of positive and aggressive badminton. They employed powerful strokes to create pressure on each other but failed to create any gap in the opening half of first set.
Both progressed closely on the board and until the one-minute interval in the first set, no one managed to establish a good lead.
After the break, Yunus showed maturity as he played with variation in his strokes and started to lead the game. He remained positive and executed safe shots which helped him to remain on track. He bagged the opening game with a close margin of 21-19.
In the second set, the Indonesian was everywhere in the court as he played with precision in his shots and dictated his Korean opponent in all corners of the court.
After the break, Yunus remained on track and did not show mercy to Ji Hoon at any stage in the concluding half.
Ji Hoon failed to level the score at any stage as his Indonesian opponent was miles ahead on the board. He also committed many unforced errors and could not manage to compete with the pace of his rival.
Yunus was fully focused in the game and took the game with a decent 21-17 score on the board.
The Indonesian won this round-of-16 contest in 52 minutes with a margin of 21-19 and 21-17.
