Alamsyah Yunus outshines Goh Soon Huat in title match of 2013 Malaysia Grand Prix Gold
Indonesia’s Alamsyah Yunus remained invincible in the final round of Yonex Sunrise Malaysia Grand Prix Gold and claimed Men’s Singles trophy on Saturday, May 4, 2013.
This grand finale saw him swinging arms against Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia. Their meeting prolonged to 68 minutes before ending with decisive figures of 10-21, 21-9 and 21-19.
Initially, the native shuttler relished full benefits of the home ground and won the opening match point but then Alamsyah Yunus stormed back with a strong reply.
The Indonesian player did not lose nerves after facing a defeat in the first set and locked the honour by playing flawless badminton in the ending two games.
Alamsyah Yunus took some time to read his rival’s game and this sluggishness proved the biggest hurdle for him.
On the other hand, the Malaysian campaigner capitalised his opponent’s blunders and established a strong grip.
Soon Huat prevailed in the establishing rallies and piled a decent margin in no time. He did not squander his efforts in next couple of rallies and added many valuable points in his total.
He finished first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11 and then swept the table with a favourable figure of 21-10.
However, story changed completely in the next game as the Indonesian player showed a transformed character and brought the life back into contest.
Alamsyah Yunus played impeccable badminton and raised his chances of success. He kept on moving forward at steady pace and left his challenger far behind on the points table.
He placed a favourable score of 11 before the interval and started second half of the set with a psychological edge.
Alamsyah capitalised this advantage in latter part of the game and finished this crucial set with an overwhelming total of 21-9.
 The decider locked them in a tough competition as both contenders were looking to pocket this final match point.
Third set started with few back-to-back gruelling rallies and both shuttlers did not allow each other to enjoy a permanent lead.  
Finally, this nerve-racking contest ended when Alamsyah Yunus registered a winning margin of 21-19 and claimed the Men’s Singles crown.
