Alan Belcher creates upset and nails Rousimar Palhares by first round knockout – UFC News
Alan Belcher, the surging UFC middleweight proud, shocked the whole UFC world by collecting an impressive rather startling first-round technical knockout win over Brazilian proud, Rousimar Palhares, in a three-round bout which was held on May 5, 2012.
The octagon for the third Fox channel UFC episode was set up at IZOD Center situated in East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States and the above bout was part of the four-bout main card. The event was headlined by the non-title clash between Nate Diaz and
Jim Miller hence the name of the pay-per-view UFC on Fox 3: Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller.
The event was co-headlined by the much anticipated welterweight bout between Josh Koscheck and Johny Hendricks. Alan, 28, mesmerised the whole UFC world by his impressive performance especially the feat he achieved by breaking the submission manoeuvre of
one of the best submission specialists in UFC’s middleweight division.
In addition, it was Rousimar who was the fan-favourite from the very beginning only because of his reputation of being the most lethal submission tactician in the whole of UFC. But Alan successfully defied all odds and rose up at the occasion not only to
feel the limelight of winning over a top-notch brawler but also to grab the attention of UFC president Dana White.
Alan was entering in his career’s 24th bout and boasted 17 wins with eight via knockout, seven by submission and two by decision. Widely known as ‘The Talent’, the American proud was on a three-bout win streak and was coming from an impressive submission
win over Jason MacDonald.
At the same time, Palhares, 32, was also coming from a three-bout win streak and boasted 14 wins in his total 17 bouts. Also known as the ‘Toquinho’, Rousimar has nailed 10 of his opponents by submission, just one by knockout, and three by decision.
The bout kicked off and as it was expected Rousimar grabbed Alan in his kneebar submission move. Alan strived hard and eventually was able to loosen the hold. Belcher stood up and leashed his attack by targeting Rousimar’s body and face simultaneously with
his jabs, elbows and knees.
The attack was so swift that Rousimar was unable to get a hold and fell on the octagon floor signalling the referee to call of the bout. With this unexpected win not only the whole crowd was amazed but Dana White also got shocked and later on admitted, “The
kid came out and performed incredibly, and it definitely puts him in the top-five in that weight class.”
After the bout Alan while recalling his moments commented, “My gameplan was to stay out of a grappling situation, just to be totally safe. I dreamed about it a little bit, about submitting him, and shocking everyone like that. But that was just a dream.”
With this win Alan has 18 wins in a total 24 bouts and Rousimar, on the other hand, unfortunately, has collected an upsetting defeat which might cost him his chances of taking on the middleweight champion in near future.
