Alan Belcher is not eyeing a title shot at Anderson Silva – UFC News
Middleweight contender Alan Belcher is one of the most promising young mixed martial artists in the middleweight division under UFC’s banner. His recent dominating wins over elite opponents have brought him closer to a title shot at champion Anderson Silva.
However, Belcher asserts that he is not yet eyeing a big move, as he still wants to go through other contenders to gain experience and mould himself into a better fighter.
“After I beat Yushin Okami, I'm not going to be mad if the UFC doesn't have me fighting Anderson Silva in February or March,” said Belcher, as report by Bloody Elbow.
Belcher is currently scheduled to face Yushin Okami at UFC 155, the final UFC event of 2012. The American fighter is hopeful of defeating Okami the way he has defeated his previous foes.
“I want to make it realistic. I want to work for it. I want to legitimately beat everyone in the division with no questions asked. That means if I have to beat Lombard, Bisping, Belfort, [Chris] Weidman, all of them in 2013, that's what I'll do,” said Belcher
regarding a title shot at Anderson Silva.
“He's good at what he does but at the same time, it's very easy to figure out what he's going to do," Belcher said. "He's very predictable. I have a lot of options with the things I can do,” he added when asked about his upcoming opponent Yushin Okami.
According to Belcher, he is a versatile fighter who has different styles and techniques in his bag. Belcher believes the only way for Yushin to win is to keep pressure on him during the fight.
It should be noted here that Belcher is currently considered among the top contenders in the division. However, he still has a list of fighters to go through, some of them are already awaiting their turns to fight Silva. For instance, Briton fighter Michael
Bisping is already in the line to get a shot at Silva.
On the other hand, we also have fighters like Chris Weidman and Brian Stann who are in the top five slot.
