Alan Gillard wins 2011 Open Frostbite Series at West Riding Sailing Club – Sailing news
Alan Gillard, on his Streaker, dominated the fleet from the start of the 2011 Open Frostbite Series to finally clinch the title with eight points after sailing in 15 races, including six discards. Gillard grabbed six bullets during his run on West Riding SC waters. The fleet completed their last two races successfully under tremendous sailing conditions.
Racing on seventh day of the series commenced under glorious conditions, as a North West breeze blew pleasantly beneath a cloudless blue sky. Despite the low air temperature, the fleet was able to finish the series after completing the last two scheduled races.
Gillard had already won the series with his outstanding performance, so he relieved himself of duty and let his son, Tom, take charge of the Streaker. Day 7 results did not change a bit, as Tom cruised towards victory in one of the races, while in the second race, the boy finished third to continue the legacy of his father.
With Tom doing a terrific job out there on West Riding waters, Gillard’s Streaker topped the standings with eight points. Mark Weston, on his Solo, was able to finish on second podium place with 17 points, while Tim Keighley on Laser managed to take third position by securing 20 points at the conclusion of the series.
The next series, the West Riding Brass Monkey Series at West Riding Sailing Club, will start early in 2012 from January 8 and will conclude on February 19. Gillard will be looking forward to claim the top podium in this series as well.
