Alan Hansen believes Sir Alex Ferguson is the driving force behind Manchester United’s success
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 defender Alan Hansen believes that Manchester United’s current squad is nowhere near the UEFA Champions League winning team of 1999 and 2008 but Sir Alex Ferguson’s winning mentality is driving them towards winning the Premier League and
Champions League.
Hansen believes that despite performing below par in the ongoing 2010-11 season, United still have been able to grind out results.
The Red Devils are placed on top of the Premier League table with a six-point lead over second placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. Their chances of winning the treble were shattered as they suffered heartbreak against local rivals Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA
Cup recently. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and will take on Schalke 04 over the two legs.
The Liverpool legend added that United’s performances in the season might sound outstanding on the cards but in reality, they have been far below their best. The 55-year-old believes that apart from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Vidic-c27550, Edwin van der Sar and Ryan Giggs, none of
their players have played consistently this season. He believes that Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney have also done well in spells and not consistently.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756 international added that Ferguson’s appetite for success is the driving factor behind their season’s performance.
Talking to the reporters Hansen said, “When United won the Treble in 1999, Ferguson’s team were driven by a midfield which was as good as you will ever see and the likes of Roy Keane, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 were all in their prime.”
“In 2008, United had another great European Cup-winning team who had three of the best forwards – http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 and Carlos Tevez – that this country has seen for the past 10 years,” added the former defender.
Hansen added that the former Aberdeen boss has shown the world that he is still the best manager in the business and can deliver results from a relatively weaker squad. He reckons that Ferguson’s team ethic and togetherness have been the dominant force in
United’s success.
The former Scotland defender is confident that United can go on and win the double at the end of the season.
