Alan King expecting Godsmejudge to shine at Ayr
Trainer Alan King believes that the conditions will help his challenger Godsmejudge in the upcoming Coral Scottish Grand National at Ayr in England on Saturday, April 20, 2013. However, the competition is going to be a tough one, as there are some fierce
competitors participating in the event.
According to King, “They have had 5.5mm of rain overnight up there, with a possible further 11mm expected before the meeting starts, so it looks like being soft ground, which will be a plus to the chance of Godsmejudge in the Scottish National.”
The seven-year-old gelding likes running on the rain affected grounds unlike some of the other challengers, who find it hard to be competitive under such conditions. His first ever victory came on a wet track, where he was rated as the outright favourite
to succeed.
He did not disappoint his team at all and took the top spot comfortably by a couple of lengths. His next victory also came on a rain affected ground, but he was not given the best odds for victory back then. Despite that, the talented runner simply outclassed
his rivals and cemented his place on the top by a staggering margin of 12 lengths.
Luckily for Godsmejudge, the track conditions in the 2013 season have mostly suited him, thus he has gained a lot of confidence. He started off the year with a strong runner up place and almost managed to win that event.
He was rated as the favourite to win next time around and did not disappoint the bookies, by securing the fourth win of his career. However, he was unable to repeat a similar show last time around and finished in third place overall.
Other than Godsmejudge, Grumeti will also be making a comeback in the race due to which King is really happy right now.
He stated, “It will also be good to have Grumeti back. He has had a frustrating season with niggles repeatedly thwarting his comeback but, like Raya Star, he is in good form, and the ground shouldn't be a problem to either.”
The five-year-old gelding has succeeded in seven races overall, which shows what he is capable of achieving at this level.
