Alan King happy with Robert Thornton’s recovery
The champion trainer, Alan King, is pleased with an early comeback of his favourite jockey, Robert Thornton, after recovering from his arm injury.
Thornton is likely to ride a horse on Tuesday, February, 14 at Folkestone racing track, where two of King’s trainees, Kauto The Roc and Suburban Bay, are lined up to run in the Claydon Horse Walkers Beginners’ Chase. The veteran jockey will probably be aboard
one of these two horses.
Thornton has been out-of-action since breaking his arm in December, 2011. The injury was somewhat severe and he had to undergo a surgery. However, the rider recovered quickly, and now he is fit and ready to ride.
The news of the jockey’s return is a matter of great satisfaction for King. While speaking to the media yesterday, the legendary trainer said, “The good thing is that the horses seem to be still in top order, and we received some more encouraging news this
week when 'Choc' (Thornton) got the all-clear to return to race-riding at Folkestone next Tuesday.”
He further elaborated, “That would be just nine weeks to the day since his surgery, which is quite remarkable. They were initially talking three months, and, while 'Choc' is renowned for being a quick healer, it is quite extraordinary that he has got back
so fast."
King and Thornton have very good working relationship, spanning over years. The skilled jockey has earned King a lot of honour by driving his horses to achieve some iconic victories so far.
Apart from King, Thornton has worked with many other star trainers so far. His career is packed with titles and awards.
Born on July 14, 1978, the jockey started his professional career with David Nicholson. Robert earned Conditional Jockey’s title in 1998.
Thornton accomplished some fabulous triumphs during 2007-08. He won the Champion Hurdle and Triumph Hurdle many times. His father was also a renowned National Hunt jockey.
Currently, the star jockey is employed with Alan King’s stable. With Folkestone event just three days away, he is all ready to accept the challenge.
