Alan King reveals Balder Succes might not take part in the JCB Triumph Hurdle
Alan King, trainer of Balder Succes, has revealed that his horse might not participate in the JCB Triumph Hurdle, and go for races in Aintree and Punchestown instead.
According to King:
“We are going to have to raise our sights and look at something a bit stronger next time for Balder Succes. He's not a typical Triumph horse because he never ran on the Flat. It's only the third race of his life. I am not saying he won't have an entry
in it but it will depend what happens on his next run.”
The four-year-old horse has only taken part in three races up till now, but has enjoyed success in each event.
He made his racing debut in October 2011, and impressed one and all with his race winning performance, despite not being the favourite.
Considering the performance of Balder Succes in his first race, he earned the favourite price in his second outing. The juvenile lived up to the expectations of his trainer and tasted victory in the second race of his career as well.
He seemed to be unmatchable right from the start of his career.
The series of victories did not stop there for Balder Succes, as he went on to win another event held at Ascot, in England, recently on Saturday, January 21, 2012.
He was once again tagged as the favourite in the race, and lived up to his reputation, by finishing at the top of the table.
However, all these victories for the four-year-old horse have come in hurdle races, and he is yet to prove his mettle in the flat races.
King also talked about another one of his trained horses, Grumeti, who suffered an injury during his race at Newbury last week.
The trainer stated:
“Grumeti is fine and cantered this morning. He will probably have a school on Monday. We were going to go straight to the Adonis and that would have been it. I can't wait for the Adonis now because if we get a cold snap at the end of February then
we are screwed.”
King further went onto say that if Grumeti proves his fitness, he could take part in the race at Cheltenham on coming Saturday.
