Alan Knill extends deal with Bury
Alan Knill has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Bury until the end of next season.
The club also announced that assistant manager Chris Brass extended his contract for the same period of time.
Director of Bury, Brian Fenton said, "We are all delighted to see Alan and Chris extend their stay with Bury Football Club."
"Alan's management of the team has been exceptional since his arrival and the changes he has implemented throughout the football club have made us better, and continue to do so on a daily basis,” he added.
Knill has been involved with the League Two side and made 144 appearances for the club from 1989 to 1993.
The 46-year-old took over the club in February 2008 after leaving his position as assistant manager with Chesterfield. Knill had held the position for 11 months and has also had a 15-month stint in charge of Rotherham.
Since taking charge at the Gigg Lane, Knill has succeeded in guiding his team into the play-offs, and Bury was unlucky to go out after they lost to Shrewsbury on penalties.
This season Bury has played well and are in third position in League Two, having taken 25 points from 13 games. Knill is hoping to improve on last season and gain promotion into League One.
The Bury manager said, "I took this job as it was a chance for me to start again. Obviously, I'd been a manager then assistant manager and this was a chance to be a manager again and it's gone pretty well.”
"I want to make the football club better if I can and the first thing was to make it a competitive League Two team and that's where we are at the moment," added Knill.
The manager will hope that he will be rewarded with a further contract should he guide Bury into League One.
