Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has confirmed that the Magpie are now looking to cash in on Jose Enrique, who has been heavily linked with a move away from St. James Park. Pardew also revealed that the Spanish midfielder wants to play for a club who can
offer him UEFA Champions League football.
Enrique is one of the highly-rated left backs of the current generation. The Spanish defender has attracted interest from a number of European clubs. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 all have been linked with the 25-year-old defender.
Moreover, Enrique was also offered the best contract in the history of Newcastle United but the Spanish defender refused to commit as he is seeking a move to a bigger club.
Pardew has revealed that Enrique wants to join a club who are playing in the UEFA Champions League, an attraction Newcastle United cannot offer for the foreseeable future.
“Jose wants to get a new club [that is] playing Champions League football. We cannot offer him that at the moment, so that seems to be his focus.”
Pardew has asserted that Newcastle United are already looking for replacement to fill the void that will be created in the Magpies ranks after the departure of Enrique.
The manager believes that the Toon will have to speed up their hunt to find a player who can fill in the shoes of the out-going left back
“It is a moving feast. We have got to be ready because if he goes, it is going to leave a big hole in the team and we need to fill it quickly. It is not ideal for us, as you can imagine. It is difficult.” Pardew further said.
The former West Ham United manager is keen to avoid a deadline departure of Enrique and wants to have plenty of time in order to find a player to replace him. Pardew also confirmed that the Magpies have not received any concrete offer for the left-back.
“We have had no concrete offers, but we are going to try and have contingency plans in place so that if we do lose X, then Y comes in,” Pardew concluded.
Enrique has been a revelation at St. James Park since his arrival from Villarreal. The 25-year-old played 36 games for Newcastle United last season.
