Alan Pardew quashes http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thierry-Henry-c34918 talk
Newcastle United’s manager Alan Pardew has rubbished the reports that linked his club to a bid for Thierry Henry.
The Frenchman who currently plays for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer was reportedly subject of a transfer bid from Newcastle United in the dying stages of the January transfer window. Henry is one of the most prolific goal scorers
in the English Premier League history.
The striker played for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal and was a part of Arsenal’s title winning side in 2003. Moreover, Thierry was also a part of the French national team which won the European Championship in 2000, and then made it to the final
of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The goal scoring machine, who used to play for Monaco in the French football league as well, led http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 in the 2010 FIFA World Cup as their team captain, when Les Blues went out at the tournament’s group stage.
Before Henry moved to the MLS, the French veteran used to play for Barcelona in the Spanish Primera Division. Henry lifted the Spanish league title with the Catalan giants. He also won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona as they defeated
Manchester United in the 2008-2009 UEFA Champions League final.
Henry would’ve been a welcome addition to Newcastle United’s squad as the Magpies parted ways with Andy Carroll in the winter transfer window following a 35-million pound transfer bid from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. Pardew now finds himself with a limited
strike force which includes the likes of Leon Best, Nile Ranger and Shola Ameobi. None of the strikers currently at Newcastle United have proven goal scoring records in the English league but that could change sooner rather than later, as now they will get
greater first team opportunities due to Carroll’s departure from the Tyneside club.
Pardew confirmed in his latest interview that Newcastle United were not looking for players to cement their first team strength but rather for the athletes who can come off the bench and change the match for the Magpies. The ex-West Ham
manager further added that Henry's move would be an impossible one for Newcastle to complete.
Newcastle battled to a hard-fought draw against Arsenal in their latest Premier League encounter. Despite the fact that the Gunners were leading by four goals to nil till the half time break, Newcastle came back, thanks to some dubious
refereeing by Phil Dowd. The English referee gave Newcastle United two penalties in the second half which helped them on their way to an eventual draw.
There have been fears around Saint James’s Park that Newcastle United might now struggle to cope up with the demands of the English Premier League survival race after parting ways with their top scorer Andy Carroll. The black and white
outfits have yet to perform convincingly since the departure of their star striker. Moreover, Newcastle’s defensive woes had continued throughout the 2010-2011 EPL season, as the Magpies have already conceded 38 goals in 25 matches.
Nonetheless, Pardew might use the money that Newcastle United has recouped from Andy Carroll’s sale in the summer transfer window. But to do that, he will first have to guide the Magpies to Premier League survival, and in doing so secure
their place in the 2011-2012 EPL season.
Newcastle United are scheduled to play their next league encounter against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 at Ewood Park Stadium. Blackburn lost their last home match against Tottenham Hotspur but it is quite possible for Newcastle United to gain a crucial
result at Ewood Park, thanks to their resurgent EPL form of late.
