Alan Pardew thinks Newcastle’s relegation in 2009 worked wonders for the Magpies: EPL News
Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew, has revealed that the club’s relegation in 2009 was actually a better result on the club’s part. Pardew believed that it has helped the officials and players to be stronger mentally and has infused more belief amongst
them.
Former Crystal Palace manager insisted that every team and every individual has a bad day and it’s not such a shameful thing until you learn from it. He added that relegation helped the magpies to gel together and now the team are playing as a complete unit
and with much more belief.
Pardew further added, “It’s never a bad trait in life, to be humbled. It brings you into line. If the club had stayed up that year, would it be stronger now? Looking at the recent financial results, maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing.”
The 49-year-old confirmed that players now have got the idea that what it takes to be in the Premier League and the recent performances have been a result of some hard work and self belief. Further commenting upon that relegation thing, Pardew said, “For
Mike [Ashley], Derek (Llambias) and the players that were here before, it was a good thing. You can put things in line financially and the mentality of the club changes and that correction isn’t a bad thing. Over the years, we’ve seen it with Manchester City
and even Manchester United. Suddenly you can become stronger for it and hopefully that’s what happens here.”
