Newcastle United manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew admits that his team may be facing a fight to stay in England’s top flight after suffering their fourth successive Premier League defeat on Wednesday night.
The Magpies travelled to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke City fresh from a hat-trick of league defeats. The visitors took the lead in the second half through Papiss Demba Cisse, and looked likely to inflict Stoke’s first home defeat of the season.
Newcastle looked comfortable and put up a strong performance, but conceded two very quick goals in the final 10 minutes of the game. Goals from Jon Walters and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cameron-Jerome-c8284 secured the win for the home side, thus keeping their flawless home record intact.
The Newcastle faithful would have been concerned with their team’s recent performances, especially after manager Alan Pardew looked so downbeat and upset. Pardew’s arrival was followed by success and good results since 2010, but this season looks a whole
different proposition.
The manager made an honest assessment of his team’s form, and admitted that it was all in their hands. He said that most of the players had not performed up to the levels that they are capable of, and insisted that his team need to fight hard this season,
and have found it more difficult for themselves.
Pardew has however decided to remind his players to get back to winning ways and avoid a relegation fight at all costs. Considering the 5th place finish last season, a fight to stay in the Premier League paints a very grim picture for the club,
and really puts a lot of pressure on Pardew.
Speaking to reporters, the manager said:
“Our pre-season ambition to aim for the Champions League this season seems a long way off now and it’s not too early to talk about being dragged into it at the bottom. We can’t bury our heads in the sand and we have to get some wins to get out of it.”
"All of us have to believe it is going to change for us and I'm convinced it will," Pardew added. "Having looked at our recent performances, I've made a few changes and I'm optimistic that they will bear some fruit in the next few games.”
