Alan Permane: Lotus have learnt lessons at Mugello test – Formula 1 news
Alan Permane, the head of Lotus trackside operations has said that they have learnt some important lessons in Mugello test which will help the team in the season ahead.
Permane said that they have been looking forward to evaluate some updates in this in-season test. He added that they managed to gather some important information regarding the upgrades in E20 which will provide help in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix.
“Track conditions were better today as a result of yesterday's running. We stopped early for lunch so that we could change the suspension and be out running straight away in the afternoon session. In the afternoon we also assessed some new floor updates
applicable for Barcelona,” said Permane.
In addition, he said that they have been able to learn many new things at the test which will be applicable throughout the approaching season. He also praised the Mugello circuit and said that is an outstanding track for the evaluation of the car’s aerodynamics.
Besides, he said that they had a great time at the Tuscan track.
“Mugello is quite hard on the tyres; not in terms of degradation, but through the high speed loadings generating heat. This has taught us some interesting lessons applicable to the rest of the season. Mugello is also an excellent circuit for doing aerodynamic
evaluation, so it has been time well spent here,” he said.
Lotus team has emerged as one of the most competitive teams in the season so far as it is currently standing at third place in the constructors’ championship with 57 points ahead of Scuderia-Ferrari.
Moreover, their pair of experienced and talented drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean is at 7th and 8th position in the drivers’ standings.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier asserted during the start of the season that they should not be viewed as the second class team anymore as they have all the potential to stand along the top contenders and to
become the world champion.
Over and above, they are making the best of the efforts to enhance their pace in the upcoming races in order to secure a competitive finish in 2012 Formula 1 championship.
