Alan Sanchez defies all odds to collect first round knockout win over Artemio Reyes – Boxing News
Alan Sanchez, the surging American welterweight prospect, grabbed an impressive first-round knockout win over Artemio Reyes, the former WBC FECARBOX welterweight champion, in a 10-round bout which was held on April 13, 2012.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino situated in The Joint, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. The above duo co-headlined the night which was headlined by the interesting toe-to-toe clash between Michael Katsidis and Albert Mensah.
The event was promoted by Vlad Wharton of Millennium Events and the show was televised on ESPN’s Friday night weekly show ‘Friday night Fights’. Alan, 21, was entering in his career’s 13th bout and boasted nine wins with four of them via knockout.
The young lad who comes from a very poor background recently started his professional boxing career and was in dire need for a huge breakthrough to take on the sport as a full-time profession.
It seemed that his wish was granted since his swift, clean and startling win over a bit experienced, aged and a former title holder is considered as a turning point in his career.
Alan was seriously overshadowed by Artemio’s resume. Artemio, who resides at a very far position in the world rankings, was entering in his career’s 17th bout and was on a huge win streak since his last unanimous decision loss to Mike Dallas Junior.
Reyes also possessed a huge knockout advantage as he boasted 12 of his total wins by knockout. With an obvious upper hand in the basic technicalities of the sport, Reyes, was being dubbed as the winner of the bout.
But Alan had something else in his mind. It was just a matter of time when the young lad thought skilfully and moved in to capitalise the blow that rattled Reyes eventually causing him to lose his ground and move backwards to the ropes.
With this opening in the very first round, Alan charged in to get the kill since this was his only chance to overcome the knockout specialist. Later on, after the bout, Alan did share his strategy and the fact that how he capitalised the moment.
Alan commented, “He was using his jab pretty good, so I thought about moving at first. Then I threw my uppercut really hard, and when I saw he was hurt, I just jumped on him and went for it.”
His trainer Jesse Lopez Senior also shared the game plan that he advised Alan to follow and said, “The plan was to stay on the outside and then go for the knockout in the later rounds but Alan had the opportunity to knock him out right there and he did it.”
With this win Alan now has 10 wins in his account and Reyes has collected his career’s second loss and the first via knockout.
