Alan Shearer says ‘I won’t be the next boss’
After ex-boss, Chris Hughton was given the sack, rumours were abound as to who the magpies might take on as their new manager. Alan Shearer, former Newcastle striker and manger, was rumored to be considered for the job. But dispelling
these rumours, the 40-year old ex-Newcastle player gave a statement on the 7th of December to BBC Radio 5, saying, “I won’t be the next manager of Newcastle I can guarantee you that. I have said never say never but I can guarantee I won’t be the
next Newcastle manager. I wonder to myself where they think Newcastle should be, if they think they should be higher than mid table as I am not disrespectful for the team but they are not going to end in the top six or seven.”
The retired English footballer played as a striker for the English Premier League teams like Blackburn Rovers, Southampton, Newcastle United and the English National team. He was esteemed as one of the greatest striker of all time
for being Newcastle United and the League’s record goal scorer.
Alan Shearer expressed that Newcastle United management had made a misjudgment after Chris Hughton had done reasonably well by putting the club back on track. They had beaten their bitter rivals, Sunderland to 5-0 and Arsenal to
1-0. Hughton was supposed to be the permanent manager of the team but the management’s decision to renegotiate the contract and subsequent sacking was harsh to many. Alan said, “This season is not all about Newcastle, it’s all about surviving in the premier
league. At this point in time, there won’t be any danger. They’ll be there because there are teams worse than them. For me, Chris was doing very fine job.”
On December 9th, the club announced that they had taken on Alan Pardew, former manager of West Ham United, Charlton Athletic and Southampton as the new permanent manager for the team.
