Alan Shekhtman overwhelms Andres Quadri in group stage of Pan Am Junior Team Event
The spirited US shuttler Alan Shekhtman proved his worth in group stage of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event after stamping Andres Quadri on Sunday, July 22, 2012.
This was a Men’s Singles tie of Group B match between USA and Mexico and both contenders displayed commendable craft at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada.
The hard fought battle lasted for 44 minutes before ending with final result of 11-21, 21-16 and 21-13.
Alan Shekhtman had an awful start but he stormed back after a first set loss and locked the honour by prevailing in last two sets.
Meanwhile, Andres Quadri could not make best out of his initial advantage and knelt down in crucial moments of the match.
The Mexican campaigner opened his game in a perfect manner and pocketed very first match point with a huge difference.
He set the ball rolling in the beginning of the first set when he prevailed in five opening rallies to place a notable margin of 5-0. This respectable lead helped him to finish first half with a favourable score position of 11-6.
Andres Quadri maintained this upper hand in later part of the game and won opening game with a staggering knock of 21-11.
However, he lost focus in following set which ultimately cost him a vital match point. He committed some fatal mistakes and allowed the opposing shuttler to bounce back.
The US campaigner played with great conviction and turned his rival’s plan of straight-set win into dust.
Alan Shekhtman made his intentions clear by grabbing three points in a row after 5-4 total. He carried this momentum all the way to half time and put a decent margin of 11-7.
After one-minute break, he decided to go with a cautious approach and kept low profile in third quarter of the set. He picked valuable points at steady pace and bagged second set with decisive figure of 21-16.
The decider was expected to be a nerve-racking tussle but it proved a flat contest in second half. This time Alan Shekhtman employed unusual tactics and served notice of his supremacy with an impressive total of 21-13.
