Former Gunner http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Smith believes Arsene Wenger’s last ditched signings in the summer, are the reason for the team struggling in the Premier League.
Alan Smith has gone on to criticize Arsene Wenger and his last ditched signings in the summer transfer window, as he believes the manager’s poor decisions are the reason for the team struggling to secure a top four finish this season.
Smith believes Wenger should have gone ahead and brought in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Per-Mertesacker-c29680 instead.
“With the Cahill thing, we don’t know exactly how it happened but we do know http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 made a bid which Bolton rejected, so why not go a bit higher, pay the asking price and get the player?”
“Now he’s gone to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and he’s a good signing for them, and he would have been a good one for Arsenal, and better than Per Mertesacker, in my opinion.”
Smith then went on to target the manager’s purchases to replace for the departing Cesc Fabregas and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360, as he went on to state: “They did seem like panic buys at the 11th hour. Arteta is 29 with an injury record, something Wenger looks at; Benayoun
is 31 and won’t make a huge difference to the first XI at the Emirates; Mertesacker has 80 caps for his country but doesn’t look a player who has that.”
Despite Smith being correct to an extent, it is easy to see just what Arsene Wenger set out to do. The manager was looking to add experience to his team, considering the amount of young players that are over flowing in the team.
However, Wenger’s decision to go crazy in the last few minutes of the transfer window is something that was a little surprising.
At one point, it seemed like Wenger might sign just about everyone that he possibly could and this was kind of weird to see.
Nonetheless, the manager doesn’t really need to explain his purchases to anyone, since he did what he thought was best for the team.
Should Wenger try and think about just who to sign before hand from here on, it might see him getting better deals on players, while helping him avoid landing alternatives to the players he initially wanted to sign.
