Alan Wake 2 in the works – Video Games Update
Remedy entertainment, renowned developers of Max Payne 1, Max Payne 2: The fall of Max Payne and the recent Alan Wake, have registered the AlanWake2.com domain name.
Alan Wake was first announced in 2005 by Remedy and showcased the best graphics of that time but went under the radar only to re-emerge as an Xbox 360 exclusive to be published by Microsoft Game Studios. The long development time had also changed the game
from being an open world sandbox horror game to a linear scripted psychological thriller.
The game came out in May 2010 around the world and was loved by gamers and critics alike scoring around 89 percent on Metacritic.com. The game however did badly in sales as it was released on the same day as Rockstars’ Red Dead Redemption, which had more
hype going for it and dominated the sales that month.
Remedy was criticised for cutting off the last two chapters from the game, only to release them later in the form of downloadable content. This was one of the reasons why the game did not get perfect scores from many review sites.
Microsoft decided to bring the franchise to PC and announced the PC version to be release on February 12, 2012 right before the release of the Xbox Live Arcade downloadable title Alan Wake: American Nightmare on February 22, 2012. American Nightmare was
also released on PC in May 2012.
Sam Lake, the lead writer for Alan Wake, has tweeted @SamLakeRMD, “It’s all true. It will happen again, in another town, a town called Ordinary.” Hinting at the development of Alan Wake 2. Many gamers were looking forward to an Alan Wake 2 announcement at
the Microsoft’s Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference this year, but the news never came as Remedy were nowhere to be found. Some gamers believe that Microsoft held back the announcement since they weren’t announcing the new console yet.
Remedy has also stated that it is going to push graphics and facial animations to the limit with the next Alan Wake game so this might be a hint to Alan Wake 2 being developed for the next generation Xbox and possible the PC later on, provided if Microsoft
still has exclusive publishing rights to the sequel.
