Alan Wake to hit PCs next year, American Nightmare may follow
Microsoft are set to test the PC waters with the announcement that Alan Wake will be making the leap from consoles onto PCs next year.
Alan Wake may be an Xbox 360 exclusive for the time being, yet it seems that the game’s publisher feels that there is enough demand from the PC gaming community for the game to be ported. It is simple economics really; where there is demand, there will be
supply.
What is interesting is the fact that Microsoft had originally planned to release the game on both the Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously, yet they scrapped the non-console version during the development process.
Many had been speculating that Mr. Wake would be making the move when an eagle eyed PC gamer noted Alan Wake as a title that was listed in Steam’s online registry. After that find, it was only a matter of when.
The PC version of the game is set to release next year, in 2012, but no specific date or time frame has been given by the game’s developer, Remedy. However, a vast majority of gaming enthusiasts and analysts predict that it most likely will be out in the
first quarter, i.e. between January and April.
Again the release date is merely speculation however, one thing that can be confirmed is the fact that the PC release of the game will come complete with all the Downloadable Content packs that have been released for the 360 version.
This means that both The Signal and The Writer DLC packs will be part of the final PC retail version, which could prove to be good value for money and an extra incentive for those wary shoppers.
At the same time, Alan Wake American Nightmare is well on its way as a download only game for the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. American Nightmare is not the true successor to the original, but more of a spin-off set to give 360 and fans of the game another taste
of the dark and atmospheric universe.
As for the Xbox LIVE exclusive making its way on to PCs, there have been reports that the release of Alan Wake on personal computers will determine whether the second game will follow. Apparently Microsoft will analyse the reception the game receives and
if it is favourable, or rather profitable enough, the second game could follow suit.
At this moment in time very little is confirmed apart from the fact that Alan Wake is making his way on to PCs and that both the DLC packs will be going with him, however in terms of a release date the only bit of information that has been given is early
2012.
