Alanna Bowles grabs Girls 200m freestyle gold – State Teams SC Championships
Alanna Bowles of QLD grabbed gold medal of the Girl’s 200m freestyle in 13-14 years age category on third day of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
The 14-year-old Bowles enjoyed a comfortable lead over her opponents throughout the race and showed her urgency towards the wall for gold medal.
Bowles, who earned the title of 200m butterfly earlier at the session, went full rampant in the freestyle discipline and occupied the crown by producing a nice time of 2 minutes and 00.07 seconds.
Bowles was chased by Lush Stickland of VIC, who was 3.92 seconds behind and emerged on the wall as second best finisher by submitting a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 03.99 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Michaela Hokin of NSW, who was one and a half body length apart finished third in the event with a fascinating effort of 2 minutes and 05.12 seconds.
Similarly, fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Lizzie Gannon of QLD, who was 0.76 seconds apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 05.88 seconds.
Gannon enjoyed an advantage of 0.70 seconds over Shayna Jack of QLD, who proved her eligibility for fifth spot of the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 06.58 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Abbey Harkin of NSW, who was 0.21 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.79 seconds.
Subsequently, Harkin was followed by Chloe Yoo of NSW, who remained nearly two strokes apart and settled on the wall as seventh fastest swimmer by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.11 seconds.
Yoo remained only 0.04 seconds ahead of Grace Hull of WA, who ended her race in eighth place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 07.15 seconds.
In addition, Bowles was happy with her form in the race and articulated her desire of accomplishing the same at higher levels of international swimming.
