Alanna Bowles wins Women’s 200m freestyle gold – 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival
Alanna Bowles of Australia Gold won gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on last day of the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival at Berkeley Aquatic Club, on Sunday, January 20, 2013.
The 15-year-old Bowles devastated hopes of her opponents in the distant freestyle discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With her commendable pace, she remained in a prominent lead over her opponents and touched the wall for gold medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 38.61 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Amelia Gould of Australia Green, who was two body lengths behind and touched the wall for silver medal with an effort of 8 minutes and 40.35 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Tsuzumi Hasegawa of Japan, who stayed 7.40 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall for bronze medal by producing a time of 8 minutes and 47.75 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Alexandra Aitchison of Canada, who stayed almost eight seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end for fourth position by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 55.25 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Flora Sibalin of Hungary, who stayed almost three seconds apart and settled on the wall by posting a time of 8 minutes and 58.05 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Grace Sommerville of New Zealand, who stayed almost eight seconds slower and hit the wall with the timing of 9 minutes and 05.88 seconds.
Sommerville was chased by Avella Giacon of Brazil, who stayed nearly two seconds slower and posted a time of 9 minutes and 07.18 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Monique King of New Zealand, who was unable to overpower any of her competitors and finished eighth in the event by submitting an effort of 9 minutes and 08.10 seconds.
Furthermore, Bowles received a huge round of applause from the audience for her gruelling form while the position holders received medals and accolades at the victory ceremony of the session.
