Alannah Stephenson outshines Rebekka Findlay in semi-final encounter at Irish U19 Open 2012
Alannah Stephenson, an upcoming shuttler from Ireland, proved her mettle in the arena and found herself a berth in Women’s Singles U19 final after showing exit to her higher ranked challenger Rebekka Findlay of Scotland in semi-final clash at the Irish U19
Open 2012 on Saturday, September 8, in Ireland.
The un-seeded Alannah, who showed stunning performance in all of her matches in the tournament, continued putting up strong show and outplayed the third seeded Rebekka in a dictating fashion.
The lower ranked Irish lady proved her supremacy on court while remaining focused in the game and she cheered her home fans by throwing out her Scottish rival in straight sets with a killing margin by taking no more than just 27 minutes.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Rebekka found herself in all sorts of trouble as she could not put up strong show at any stage in the whole contest and easily crashed out in a humiliating manner without taking any game.
The opening set was completely one-sided when Alannah showed up her aggressive and positive skills on court and remained in commanding position throughout the opening half when she was ahead on board with a comfortable margin.
After the break, Alannah remained consistent in moving fast and positive on court and remained successful in stretching her lead without facing any trouble from Rebekka.
The Irish shuttler proved her elevated craft while playing with confidence and remained successful in taking the opening game in a spectacular fashion by a smashing 21-9 score on the board.
In the second set, Rebekka slow showed a good resistance this time as she was quick and focused this time.
In the meanwhile, Alannah was calm and composed in starting rallies of second game and played positive badminton until the end of opening half when she was slightly ahead of Rebekka on score board.
After the break, the in-form Irish player remained collected as she did not commit any mistake in the concluding phase and took the set with a convincing margin of 21-16.
The incredible Alannah wrapped up victory by finishing off the semi-final clash in straight sets with a striking difference of 21-9 and 21-16.
