Alanza and Fire Lily accomplish impressive victories at Leopardstown on 14th June, 2012
With a brilliant victory in the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown on 14th
June, 2012, Alanza is on her way to Newmarket to compete in a Group 1 race - which she can conquer with her incredible skill.
The four-year-old prevailed in an impressive manner over the seven furlong track, which was labelled good to soft.
The daughter of Dubai Destination, out of mare Alasha, raced as a favourite with at 8-11, and justified that status well.

Paired with rider J. Murtagh, she made her winning move in the closing stages of the race and finished a neck before the K. J.Condon trained, Marvada.
J.S. Bolger’s charge, Glor Na Mara, finished in third place, 2 ½ lengths behind Marvada, whereas the fourth place was secured by, Singing Bird.
Trainer John M. Oxx was immensely delighted with the success of his runner as he told the press that:
"She won nicely, as we hoped she would. She doesn't do a lot in front - I thought she was going to win two lengths but she was dossing in front. The ground has gone a bit for her, she wants good to firm - she loves that. I think we'll give her another
shot at a Group One, in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. She's good at seven furlongs but we'll give her one more shot at a mile."
Leopardstown also proved to be lucky for the David Wachman trained, Fire Lily, who notched a victory in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes, which was on the same card and covered a distance of six furlongs.
The bay filly was paired with rider, Wayne Lordan, who brought out the best in her and led her to a ¾ of a length victory over the A.P. O’Brien trained, After, while Gossamer Seed finished in third place.
The trainer commented that the jockey handled her well and gave her "a good ride on the rail." The trainer stated that she got to the front too soon, but maintained her composure and broke through the wire first.
In the future, the runner will take on similar distances of six or seven furlongs.
