Alaska Aces sign Columbus Blue Jackets’ forward Brandon Dubinsky for training camp
Brandon Dubinsky, a professional American ice hockey player, has become 4thNational Hockey League (NHL) player to sign for the Alaska Aces in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) as the team added the forward into their training camp.
In last one week, three other NHL players also joined the Aces and they are 32-year-old defenseman of New Jersey Devils, Scott Gomez and Tampa Bay Lightning’s centre Nate Thompson, along with American right winger Joey Crabb, who plays for Toronto Maple
Leafs. Like the three other players, Dubinsky also belongs to Anchorage, Alaska.
Dubinsky has signed a tryout contract with the Aces, just like Scott Gomez and Nate Thompson and Alaska based team would be looking to take a benefit of the NHL lockout to make their team stronger with the much more experienced and highly rated NHL players.
On the other hand, Joey Crabb has a different type of contract and he would be bound to play for the minor league team only until the lockout and will leave them as soon as the lockout ends but tryout contract signed by the other three means that they will
have to stay until a specific period of time.
Even then Rob Murray, the head coach of Alaska Aces is not sure whether Dubinsky is going to stay with them and play for them in the regular season or not he is here to join the training camp only for the time being. Alaska would be starting their season
with the exhibition games as they play against Las Vegas Wranglers at the Sullivan Arena on 7th and 8th October 2012.
26-year-old Dubinsky is surely one of the most experienced and influential players who have joined Alaska as he has played a lot of NHL hockey in recent years.
After making his professional career debut at the age of 16 in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for Portland Winter Hawks and then after playing there for 4 years, he played two years American Hockey League (AHL) for Hartford Wolf Pack.
The 6-foot-1, 210 pounder centre has been one of the most consistent NHL players since making his debut in 2006 as he has played 393 games and scored 81 goals, 132 assists for total of 213 points.
