I'm trying to decide between these two months to book my cruise ......Is the weather cooler or warmer in one month than the other. I would like it to be nice temp during the day but a lot cooler at night, so I can snuggle :) Which month would be better? Thank you!

  1. I have been to Alaska twice, once on a cruise ship.  The weather is warmer in August but it is also very pleasant in September.  Regardless of when you go you are likely to get rain in Juneau and Skegway and it will be cold (and I mean hat, coat and gloves cold) near the glaciers.  When you get to Seward, Anchorage and Fairbanks the weather can be in the 70's during the day.

The Alaska cruise season is short, May to Sept so if you have  not booked for this year already you may pay a premium for your cruise tickets.  But weather wise, there's not much difference.  I say go in Sept and get a balcony cabin.

  2. Obviously, being in the northern hemisphere, September should be the cooler of the 2 months, although sometimes it can be nice in September (an Indian Summer!) so it's pretty much a gamble. I went in July and it was quite warm and we had no rain, but I was told that at the end of June it didn't stop raining.

Go to the website of the cruise line that you will be sailing with and you should find a link telling you what type of weather to expect.

  3. August would be warmer. However going in Sept. the fares would be less plus all shops in ports have their 50 % off sales so it would be a great time for souvenirs. Also Glacier Bay is great.

    Enjoy.
