Our family enjoys cruising (bahamas) and are considering an Alaskan Cruise. We are unsure if it's a good idea (fun) for teens?

  1. yes he will love it

, whale spoting or seals and eagles soaring give him apair of binoculars will keep him busy for hours ,plus he will learn the eco system of that enviornment as well as just exploring the ship plus they activities while at ports sightseeing will give him memories of a lifetime

  2. It can be.  I was 17 and had a blast.  I would suggest going on a cruise that stops in Juneau, Alaska.  If he likes to go on helicopter rides and water rafting (I did the rafting...dad did the ride) he will LOVE it.  I had a blast.  The only thing I suggest is researching the ship to see if it has clubs for teenagers and then call them to see about how many (on average) kids are on the ship.  I went on Holland America's Veendam ship and i was one of 25 (not very many) people under 20.  Most were over 60.  But the Princess cruise I went on had MANY kids on it and I still talk to one of the girls I met on that cruise.  Anyways, I hope that helps!  Have fun on your cruise.  Be sure to take your camera and back up memory because you will need it.  I filled up my digital camera disk and half of my spare!

  3. I think most definitely it can be, but really this depends on the cruise line you go with if your 14 year old will enjoy himself as well as you enjoying yourself.

In all honesty though I can't just type in a cruise line and say it would be a good one for you to choose, because there are a few that are great.  But one that is good for you, won't be for the next person for various reasons.  It all has to do with what you expect/want from the Cruise.

If you like feel free to email me and I can give you my contact info.  Once able to ask a few questions I know better what I could recommend for you and feel good about the recommendation.

Been to Alaska though and wow is it beautiful!  Depending on how long you are able to go for you can do a Cruisetour where you can go up into the heart of Alaska and see so much more!  In places such as Denali, Mt. McKinley, Anchorage, Kenai, etc.

Look forward to possibly hearing from you!

  4. We did the Alaska cruise about 4 years ago and it can be fun for your teens if they are interested in nature activities.  On an Alaska cruise there will be no water sports on beaches.  But you will have an opportunity to see glaciers, historic Alaskan cities, activities about salmon fishing, eagles, and a few other wildlife.

You can get the best information about what tours and activities an Alaskan cruise will offer by just going to each cruise line web site and clicking on their Alaska port stop.  Some of the different type things to do are go on a dog sled  ride and see the dogs up close; or fly to a glacier and take a hike.

You can also see what activities the line has for teens while on ship.  Many have programs and a staff person assigned just for teens.

I suggest that if you do Alaska select one of the cruise-tours that includes more than just the inside passage and takes you by bus and train (mostly) all the way to Denali National Park and Fairbanks Alaska.  You will have a better chance of seeing wildlife on a cruise tour cruise.

  5. I am 15 and I LOVED IT.  It was the single, most fun thing I've ever done in my entire life.  Alaska is one of those places that you can say you've been and hardly anyone else has.  It has all sorts of interesting things up there and amazing wildlife.  But, go in the early summer/late spring so you don't get the giant mosquitoes.  We went at the first of June and they said we were lucky not to get any bugs.
