Alastair Cook Justifies his decision of not playing Jonathan Trott in the second ODI – Cricket News Update
The One-Day captain of England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576, in the second One Day International against India, saying that they needed more attacking batsmen after the game was
cut to 23 overs each due to a delayed start.
"We needed more attacking batters and that's why Samit (Patel) played,” said Cook when asked why Trott was left out of the playing XI at Southampton. “We had enough batting and we didn't need it (in a shorter format of the game)," he added further.
England are the world’s best Test team as well as the world T20 champions and must be eager to claim the bragging rights of the game by moving to the top of ODI rankings chart as well.
Cook however, downplayed possibility of clinching the top spot in One-Day cricket in the near future. When asked if their next goal is to be the world’s best One-Day team, Cook said it’s a long way off and they have a lot of work to do to reach that spot.
"It's a possibility but presently it's a long way off,” said Cook. “We are number five and we have huge number of work to do. We have huge potential but it's a long time before we get there. We need a lot of hard work but we are desperate to do well and
keep improving," he added further.
England became the World T20 champions by winning the 2010 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 as the world’s number one Test side by thwarting Dhoni and his men 0-4 in the four match Test series.
After winning the only T20 against India, they are currently playing the world champs in the five-match ODI series. The first ODI of the series at Chester-le-Street was washed out while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 defeated India by seven wickets in the second ODI at Southampton,
with Cook leading from the front.
The third ODI of the series will be played at The Oval on September 9.
