http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 admits his batting department failed – Cricket News Update
After suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the just-concluded One Day International (ODI) series against the Indian hosts, the routed English Captain, Alastair Cook, has admitted that his side failed to remain effective under the batting department, which
contributed much to their whitewash.
“It’s really a bit of shocker. Incredible. We have not batted well in the entire tour. Batting is one of the team why we lost many games,” Cook said.
Tuesday’s series finale game was a real display of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Put into bat first by England at the Kolkata venue, the Indian hosts managed to pile up a competitive total of 271 runs, thanks to Skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s not out 75 runs contribution, which uplifted the side’s aggregate that had once stood at a
worrying tally of 206 for 6 in 43.4 overs.
As for England’s response, the visitors came out with a worthy start to the final bout, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206 and Captain Cook, scoring a half century apiece, but were parted after adding 129 runs contribution to the side’s total.
However, just when things seemed to fall in place, the Poms suffered a swift crumble at their line-up, complements to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228, who collected 7 wickets amongst them, which reduced England to a humiliating total of 176 runs,
falling 95 runs off the mark.
During the post match conference, the English Skipper also admitted that his revamped side lacked experience on the Indian turf, even though they have not been so effective on such conditions in the past as well.
“Not many of us have played here. The bowl does not come quite well in these conditions. Winning is a habit and losing is also a habit. When the confidence is not so high, it’s not easy. India's confidence is high. They are playing some decent cricket and
it's hard to stop them,” said Cook.
However, Cook did admit that his team clicked as a bowling unit, and praised Steven Finn’s contribution to the side, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Bresnan-c2711.
England, the Twenty20 (T20) world champions, are still to face the Indians in the tour’s final, one-off T20 outing, which kicks off October 29, 2011 at Kolkata.
