Having won the toss, the left-handed opener had no hesitation to bowl first in conditions which were expected to offer some help to the seamers initially. The decision turned out to be the right one as the home
team had the Proteas on the mat.
South Africa had lost eight wickets for just 80 runs on the board before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RK-Kleinveldt-c2334 consolidated the innings somewhat and helped their side score 175 runs before being bowled out in the
39th over of the innings.
Anderson set the tone for the Poms, having claimed two wickets in eight overs after conceding just 14 runs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JC-Tredwell-c1676 backed him up nicely by picking up three vital scalps.
While expressing his views in the post-match presentation ceremony, Cook praised his bowlers and feels that his team is on its way to clinch the mega event for the first time.
"That's the performance you want in a semi-final. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 was outstanding which was fantastic. The other guys back him up, especially tricky Tredders. To win any tournament you need everyone to fire and we've got
that so far," said the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 captain.
Not surprisingly, 175 did not turn out to be enough for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 as the hosts chased down the total in the 38th over of the innings for the loss of just three wickets, with Jonathan
Trott leading the charge with an unbeaten 82 off merely 84 balls in which he struck 11 boundaries.
On the other side of the coin, the South Africa captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, admitted that the English batsmen were too good on the day for the Proteas.
De Villiers said, "We tried everything with the ball but it got pretty flat in the afternoon. There's no excuses. We had the talent to win this tournament. We just didn't play well enough."
The second semi-final is going to be played today between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Cardiff.
