Cook was announced as the captain for the 50-overs format of the game after the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011 in the sub-continent. Former captain Andrew Strauss decided to retire from limited overs cricket after the mega event, which opened the door for Cook.
The decision by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to appoint Cook as the captain has been heavily criticized by cricket analysts in the country. Especially, because the left handed opener has never been a permanent member of England’s limited overs squad,
even though he has been an exceptional player in the longer version of the sport.
The left-handed batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 understands that he has a lot to prove in limited overs cricket at the international level but claimed that he has a lot of experience at the domestic level, which should help Cook establish himself as a 50-overs opener.
He said, "I know I have the talent and the skills to do it. Every time I wasn't playing test cricket I went back to Essex to play one-day cricket. It's part of the skill-set, you need to develop the ability to change your method. I'm nowhere near the finished
article and as a 26-year-old I've got a lot of work to do, but I'm prepared to do it."
The 26-year-old cricketer has so far played 26 ODIs for England in which he has scored 858 runs at an average of 33 runs per innings. He has also scored a hundred and five half-centuries, but he still has a lot to prove in this format of the game.
Cook is looking at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 as his role model, who also struggled in limited overs cricket at the start of his career.
“I think Strauss's a great example for me. When he first started playing one-day cricket I think he had a strike-rate of about 65, maybe 70. Towards the end his career strike-rate was up to 80,” Cook added.
