http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 confident of a turnaround at Headingley – Cricket News Update
England’s prolific opening batsman, Alastair Cook, said on Sunday that his side has put the innings crushing at The Kia Oval at their back and are looking forward to make a strong comeback against the Proteas in the second Test, which gets underway at Leeds,
Headingley, on Thursday, August 2, 2012.
While speaking to media persons ahead of the second Test, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s Test vice captain said that they have the potential to bounce back from the innings crushing and level the series 1-1 with a victory at Headingley.
“...with what this England side has achieved over the last few years, we know we can beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and we have the players to do that,” said the lanky left-hander, who scored a century against the Proteas in the first innings of the opening Test, which
his side lost comprehensively by an innings and 12 runs.
"It’d be an amazing achievement to beat a side like South Africa and it is certainly not out of the question,” he added further.
Describing last week’s crushing at Kia Oval as one of the heaviest defeats of his career, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 veteran urged his teammates to play “closer to their potential” in the next two Tests.
"It's not difficult to pick yourselves up after a loss like that, but it's clearly not a nice experience," said Cook. "We have just got to make sure we steel ourselves for fighting for those five days," he insisted.
At least one more defeat, or two drawn games against the Proteas would cost England their World No. 1 Test status. A victory at Headingley is necessary for the Poms not only to secure their position at the top of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Test rankings, but also to improve their
record of five defeats in nine Tests played this year.
Meanwhile, the hosts have named their squad for the Headingley Test. The only change to the squad from the innings crushing at The Kia Oval is uncapped batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373, who was unavailable for selection due
to “personal reasons”.
The two outfits will play another Test at Lord’s before playing ODI and T20 series.
