Alastair Cook, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749’s One-Day skipper, is determined to maintain his consistent form in the final and deciding match of the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be played on July 9, 2011, at Manchester.
“I’ll keep doing the same stuff. I’ve not changed the way I practice. I keep striving to get better. The moment you step back and start enjoying the form, you might take your foot off the gas and your game may drop that one per cent.”
Cook took a fine start of his duties as a skipper in the ongoing ODI series against the visitors, as his side won the first game by 110 runs. Though, he did not give any considerable batting performance but his leadership proved to be successful in the first
appearance.
However, in the second ODI, England’s bowling, as well as batting, did not prove to be as strong and they faced a 69-run defeat against Sri Lanka, at Leeds, on July 1.
Cook added 48 runs off 52 balls including five boundaries and became the second highest run-scorer for his side after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032, who hit a splendid innings of 52 runs off 40 balls, including three fours and two sixes.
During the third ODI at Lord’s, England had to face a second consecutive defeat by six wickets, as they were just able to set a below par target of 246 runs for the World Cup finalists, Sri Lanka.
Cook gave a stunning batting performance in the game, as he hit his career’s best 119 runs off 143 balls, including 13 boundaries.
“I know I can score that quickly,” Cook told reporters at Old Trafford on Friday.
The left-handed batsman then carried his form in the fourth ODI, where he hit an unbeaten 95 runs off 75 balls, including 16 fours, steering his side to 10-wicket victory at Nottingham. Cook’s marvellous batting efforts earned him the Man of the Match award.
Cook was appointed as England’s skipper following the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 stepped down from the post in order to focus more on his Test career.
