Alastair Cook disappointed at losing Kevin Pietersen – Cricket News Update
England’s One-Day International captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806’s calibre would be a big blow for the English team.
Pietersen, on Thursday, announced his retirement from England’s limited over teams. The personified batsman, however, remained available for selection in Test cricket.
Cook felt disappointed with Pietersen’s decision to hang up his boots at the age of 31, as the skipper believes that KP could have served England for couple of years to say the least.
“As one-day captain, when you lose a very fine player, you are very disappointed. I certainly feel he has a lot to offer the one-day team but every player has the right to decide when to retire and Kev's chosen this moment to do
it,” Cook told Sky Sports.
Pietersen has donned England’s ODI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jersey-c41001 on 127 occasions amassing 4184 runs at an average of 41.84. The right-hander primarily batted in the middle-order; however, he recently moved up in the pecking order and opened the innings
with Cook.
England were in dire need of a batsman who could provide them a solid start alongside Cook, and Pietersen took the role. The 31-year-old proved to be a reliable partner as he smashed back-to-back centuries against Pakistan in the
UAE.
Cook admitted that it will take some time to find a replacement for such a classy player; nonetheless, the left-hander remained positive that the English team will march-on.
“It is exciting times and the team will always move on but when you lose world-class players, they are hard to replace. It is a loss. In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, when he moved up to open the batting, we had a good partnership going,” said the
27-year-old cricketer from Gloucester. “The one thing it does do is give another person an opportunity to try and join the one-day team.”
Though, KP wanted his T20 career to continue, but according to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Wales Cricket Board’s policy, a player who has deemed himself unavailable for either ODI or T20 will automatically be ruled out of selection for the other.
