Alastair Cook expecting a batting track at Headingley – Cricket News
England’s captain and left-handed opening batsman, Alastair Cook, is expecting a batting track for the second Test of the two-match series against New Zealand at Headingley and feels that his bowlers will have
to work hard if the overhead conditions are not cloudy.
The Poms are presently leading the battle with one match to nil; with the second match all set to begin today at Headingley.
Historically, Headingley is known to assist the seam and swing bowlers. However, the England captain believes that it has offered batting tracks in recent years. In Cook’s opinion, bowlers will be more threatening
if the conditions are cloudy.
The gutsy opener expressed, "Over the last couple of years there have been some high-scoring games here and it's quite similar to Lord's. If it's sunny it can be a nice pitch to bat on and we will have to work
hard in every session."
After the series against the Black Caps, Cook and company are scheduled to play back-to-back Ashes series, which remains one of the most important cricketing events for England and Australia. However, Cook believes
that every single series is important and winning the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 will boost the confidence of his side.
"Winning is vitally important, we want to win every game and series we're involved in," the England captain said. "That's the challenge, we want to try and win. It sounds simple but it will take a lot of hard
work."
The Poms have been playing some exceptional cricket in recent times, having defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at their own backyard last year. Australia will provide a different challenge for the English team and Cook’s men will
have to be at the top of their game to retain the Ashes.
According to most sporting analysts, England will start the Ashes as favourites, in the presence of an experienced batting line-up and one of the most threatening bowling line-up in English conditions.
The first Test of the five-match series between England and Australia is going to start from July 10 at Trent Bridge and Cook’s men will tour http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 later this year for another five-match series.
