http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, the England captain, is frustrated after losing the opening One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series against New Zealand at the Lord’s but feels that there is nothing to ring the alarm bells about.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first, as the ball was expected to move around a little bit in the first innings. The decision turned out to be the right one as England were restricted for merely 227 runs in their allotted
50 overs for the loss of nine wickets.
The Black Caps chased down the total for the loss of five wickets in the 47th over of the innings, thanks to a stunning century by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Guptill-c1980, who remained unbeaten on 103 off 123 balls and struck eight boundaries
and four sixes.
While expressing his views in the post-match presentation ceremony, the England captain said that he is disappointed with the batting performance of his side and admitted that they should have given a bigger
target to the Kiwis.
"I don't think it's a wake up call," Cook said. "We didn't get it quite right today. We did that hard bit getting in but we didn't go on to make the big score that you need. It's not concerning but it's
just frustrating. 260 would have been a good effort and we were in a position to do that.”
Unfortunately for England, their two premier fast bowlers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566, are struggling with niggles at the moment. As a result, the selectors have called up Boyd Rankin for the remaining
two ODIs against the Kiwis.
Cook hopes that Rankin with his extra-ordinary height would be able to deliver the goods in international cricket.

later in the series," the left-handed opener added.
