Defeated captain, Alastair Cook, reckoned his side played bad in all the departments in the second One Day International (ODI) against South Africa on Tuesday, August 28, to begin their limited overs campaign on a losing streak at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
England were defeated by 80 runs, as they failed to chase down a mammoth tally of 288 needed to win the match.
Expressing frustration at the outcome of the match, Cook said, “We just didn't play very well, in all three aspects. When we batted we were up with the run rate but we never got our partnerships going.”
Speaking about the crucial catches that were dropped by the Poms, allowing South African batsmen to clobber an amazing total, Cook said, “It's frustrating to drop catches, we're training really hard but they're not sticking. There's no reason why they're going down.”
With three games to go, Cook rooted his side to make a comeback in the series, and urged his teammates to turn it around by standing up and taking some responsibility.
