England’s One Day International skipper, Alastair Cook, has hailed his fast bowlers for taking the centre stage in Saturday’s 114-run win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in the first one-dayer of the three-match series, in Southampton.
"We've gone in with that tactic of trying to play to our strengths. It's bloody hard to do that against four genuinely quick bowlers and a world-class spinner," said Cook after the mammoth victory.
"I'm always going to back our bowlers to be hard and to keep coming back even if they do go around the park,” he added further.
Though the foundation for the thumping victory was laid by Ian Bell’s startling century at the top of the order, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Bresnan-c2711-led English attack finished things in the hosts’ way by dismissing the Caribbean line-up for just 172 in their revised 287-run
chase.
Riding on Ian Bell’s 117-ball 126, the hosts set a formidable total of 288 for 6 in their stipulated 50 overs. In reply, the Windies got off to a promising start to their run chase.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/D-Ramdin-c1299 (30 from as many deliveries), as the tourists looked quite comfortable at one stage with 102 for 2 on the board. However, Tim Bresnan scything through the
West Indies batting line-up, ensuring the day belonged to the Poms, as the tourists floundered to 172 all out in the 34th over.
“Smith played really well at the top of the order, but as a captain standing at mid-off knowing you can throw the ball to four genuinely quick world-class bowlers, it makes it very comforting,” said the home skipper adding, "To win by 100 runs after losing
the toss is really good from the lads."
Bresnan was the most successful as well as the most economical bowler of the day with figures of 4 for 34 in 7.4 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harold-William-Stephenson-c61707 Finn and Stuart
Broad returned with one wicket apiece.
The second one-dayer of the three-match series gets underway at The Oval on Tuesday.
